Detection and Cleaning Services for Soil Pollution

What is Soil Pollution?

Along with the acceleration of industrialization, soil pollution has also emerged as an environmental issue.

Waste from residential areas, exhaust gases, industrial wastes, agricultural pesticides, and chemical fertilizers are the most significant factors causing soil pollution. Soil pollution occurs in areas where garbage from residential areas is dumped haphazardly and in areas where sewage networks are discharged directly into the soil without treatment. As a result of the unconscious and excessive use of agricultural pesticides and artificial fertilizers, the accumulation of toxic substances in the soil increases, causing pollution of the natural environment.

How is Soil Pollution Detected?

Soil pollution is detected through the analysis of soil samples taken from areas suspected of being contaminated and groundwater samples taken by laboratories authorized by the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning. The soil sample taken from the contaminated site is compared with a reference sample from the same area that is not contaminated.

As Serdar Engineering, we conduct site condition determination measurements and analyses in areas with suspected contaminated sites (areas where chemicals have been spilled due to accidents, areas where facilities that operate under the Regulation on Soil Pollution Control and Point Source Contaminated Sites are located).

How is Soil Pollution Cleaned?

The cleaning of contaminated sites can be conducted on-site or off-site. A commonly used method is the excavation of contaminated soil from the area and ensuring its disposal. The area from which the contaminated soil has been removed is then backfilled with clean soil. If the contaminated soil cannot be removed from the polluted site, in-situ soil washing can be applied to clean it.

Our company Serdar Engineering, prepares the Cleanup Activity Planning and Evaluation Report for the contaminated site. After the report is approved by the commission established under the presidency of the Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urban Planning, the disposal of the contaminated soil is carried out at our Serhat Waste factory.

How is Soil Pollution Prevented?

  • Timely maintenance and repair of storage equipment at facilities primarily engaged in the storage of hazardous substances,
  • Taking the necessary safety precautions while transporting hazardous substances on highways,
  • Preventing incorrect practices in the use of agricultural pesticides and artificial fertilizers,
  • Ensuring that hazardous waste is disposed of by licensed firms by the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning without coming into contact with the soil.
